BURLINGTON, Mass., May 22, 2006 – iRobot Corp. (NASDAQ: IRBT) today announced that it has sold more than 2 million iRobot Roomba® Vacuuming Robots, making Roomba one of the best-selling consumer robots in history. The iRobot Roomba has been lauded by industry experts and consumers alike as the first true practical and affordable home robot.
“With over 2 million units sold, it is clear that the iRobot Roomba is not a boutique purchase or limited to holiday impulse buying,” said Dan Kara, president, Robotics Trends. “It is also clear that iRobot maintains its position as the market and mindshare leader in the consumer robot arena, an area that is exhibiting extraordinary growth.”
Since its introduction in 2002, the iRobot Roomba has earned the Good Housekeeping Seal as well as industry accolades such as Time Magazine’s Coolest Inventions and Popular Science’s Best of What’s New awards. In addition, it has blazed a path for other robot innovations, including the company’s newest home robot, the iRobot Scooba™ Floor Washing Robot.
“Selling 2 million Roomba Vacuuming Robots is not just a milestone for iRobot, but for the robot industry as a whole,” said Greg White, executive vice president and general manager, iRobot. “This achievement signifies that more and more consumers are adopting robots in their everyday lives, thereby liberating themselves from mundane household chores and spending more time with family and friends.”
Robot owner Eric Pierce said, “The iRobot Roomba has changed my life. With two dogs and a cat, I used to spend hours cleaning every weekend. With Roomba my floors are cleaner than ever, and I have not needed to vacuum my house in over a month.”
iRobot currently offers five models of the Roomba Vacuuming Robot, ranging in price from $150 to $330. They are available on the company’s Web site at www.irobot.com and in more than 7,000 retail stores, including Target, Linens ‘n Things, Best Buy, Sears, Amazon.com and Bed, Bath & Beyond.
