iRobot Earns Software Engineering Institute Certification

Independent Team of Assessors Awards CMM Level 3 Status, Validating Timely and Efficient Delivery of High-Quality Software for iRobot’s Military Products

BURLINGTON, Mass., Dec. 20, 2005 – iRobot Corp. (NASDAQ: IRBT) today announced its Government & Industrial Robots team has earned the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Software Capability Maturity Model® (CMM®) Level 3 certification. Achieving the certification is an important and progressive step for U.S. Department of Defense contractors, such as iRobot.

“iRobot has made remarkable progress over the last year toward software development maturity,” said John Webb, CMM Lead Assessor, The Boeing Company.  “All of its employees are committed to doing their work on schedule and within budget, and producing the highest quality products.”

iRobot earned the CMM Level 3 rating based on an independent assessment of its software development and maintenance capabilities by an industry and government appraisal team. The rating certifies that iRobot uses an engineering process model for planning, designing and managing the software life cycle. CMM Level 3 certification ensures the timely and efficient delivery of high-quality software for iRobot’s robots.

“CMM Level 3 certification is effectively a yardstick against which we can judge the maturity of our software development, compared to that of a competitive industry,” said Vice Admiral Joe Dyer (U.S. Navy, Ret.), executive vice president and general manager, iRobot. “The certification offers confidence to our prime contracting partners and government customers that we are continuing to meet, and many times exceed, the requirements of our contractual obligations.”

iRobot has been previously awarded a $51 million contract with the U.S. Army’s Future Combat Systems program as well as a $14 million contract with NAVSEA to deliver military robots. Today more than 300 iRobot PackBot® Tactical Mobile Robots are deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. PackBot is a rugged, lightweight robot used for reconnaissance and has proven particularly valuable for IED disposal.
