iRobot Announces the Create Challenge Contest

Robot Leader and Tom’s Hardware Guide challenge hobbyists, clubs, schools to submit best ideas

ROBOBUSINESS CONFERENCE & EXPO, BOSTON, May 16, 2007 – iRobot Corp. (NASDAQ: IRBT) today announced it has teamed with technology Web sites Tom’s Hardware Guide (www.tomshardware.com) and Instructables (www.instructables.com) to introduce the iRobot Create Challenge, a new contest for robot hobbyists, developers and students. Using the iRobot® Create™ programmable robot platform, aspiring roboticists can design and assemble new robots—from practical to whimsical—for a chance to win $5,000.

“Robots spark the creative juices of people with a wide variety of interests because we all have dull, dirty or dangerous tasks that we would rather delegate to a robot,” said Helen Greiner, cofounder and chairman of iRobot. “The iRobot Create Challenge gives aspiring roboticists the chance to build the robot of their dreams.”

Beginning on May 16, entrants may submit descriptions and photos of their robot creation built on the iRobot Create robot platform at http://www.instructables.com. The submissions will be posted publicly and will be judged based on merit. Final entries will be due Aug. 31, 2007. The grand prize winner will be announced in October. In addition, iRobot is offering a limited number of free scholarship robot packages for those who wish to enter the main contest, but do not have the ability to purchase an iRobot Create kit themselves. For detailed instructions and entry information, please visit http://www.tomshardware.com/irobot. “Tom’s Hardware Guide will have reporting and video coverage of the iRobot Create Challenge,” said Barry Gerber, editorial technical director of TG Publishing. “This contest is of great interest for our audience of nearly 3 million computing enthusiasts, grass-roots technologists, engineers and members of the high-tech community who love to spend hours evaluating electronic components and developing electronic devices. This is going to be great fun for all.”

iRobot Create is an affordable, programmable robot designed for aspiring roboticists, advanced high-school and college students, and serious robot developers. Create comes pre-assembled, so developers can design new robots without having to build a mobile robot from scratch. With Create, developers can begin designing new robot applications out of the box. The platform provides access to robot sensors and actuators via an open interface. Create also features standard connections for electronics and threaded mounting holes that allow users to secure their inventions to the robot, streamlining the integration of third-party electronics such as sensors, cameras, arms and wireless connections.
