iRobot Reveals Findings of National Survey on At-Home Work-Life Balance at Blogging Convention

One in three Americans go as far as to say there are days they would rather stay at work than go home and face their household tasks

SAN FRANCISCO, July 18, 2008 – Americans are more concerned than ever about the time they spend working inside their homes and the dwindling amount of time spent on leisure activities, according to iRobot Corp.’s (Nasdaq: IRBT) “Balance at Home” survey. The national survey of consumers, conducted by StrategyOne on behalf of iRobot, indicates that Americans spend 40 percent of their in-home waking hours tending to household chores such as vacuuming, washing the floors and preparing meals.

iRobot unveiled the survey findings at the fourth annual BlogHer Conference held July 18-20 at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco.

“For years, we have all heard about the issue of work-life balance – creating balance between your work duties and your personal life,” said Matt Palma, vice president of sales and marketing at iRobot Corp. “But what we’ve uncovered is that the issue of balance does not end when Americans come home at the end of the day. If anything, the struggle for balance inside the home – balancing work and play – is as acute as the struggle to delineate between work life and personal life.”

“iRobot wants to bring this conversation to the forefront and help people learn more about today’s available solutions for better work-life balance in the home. For example, iRobot’s products are designed to make a difference in people’s lives by helping to create better balance in the home a reality. iRobot’s automated tools truly help with routine household tasks whether it be vacuuming, floor washing, or gutter and pool cleaning,” Palma continued.

Balancing Act
For the average person, attempting to keep all the domestic balls in the air and still have time to enjoy their homes, friends and family, has proven to be a challenge. In fact, according to the survey, more than half of Americans report that their household tasks often get in the way of enjoying their weekends, and 49 percent say just thinking about household tasks stresses them out.

The everyday tasks that home life requires have become so burdensome that one in three Americans say there are days when they would rather stay at work than go home and face their laundry list of household to-do’s. In addition, nearly half of moms blame household tasks for causing many arguments with their spouses or significant others.

iRobot works to address the problems of the harried American by taking care of various tasks around the home so that people can catch up on housework and still spend time doing the things they would like to do at home.

iRobot’s home robots make a difference by managing chores such as vacuuming, floor washing, and pool and gutter cleaning, and allowing people to maintain the clean home that is so important to them, while also balancing everything else that is meaningful in their lives.

BlogHer 2008 – Mom and Balance
iRobot’s survey found that women with children are the most balance-starved of all. The average mother spends more of her in-home waking hours completing household tasks than she does enjoying activities, such as spending time with her children and family or relaxing by herself. In fact, moms report spending 50 percent of their at-home time tending to the household and less than one-third of their time engaging in leisure activities.

In an effort to share the benefits of home robots with these important consumers, iRobot became a first-time, Gold Level sponsor of BlogHer, the popular blogging conference for women. At the event, BlogHer attendees can visit the iRobot Internet Café and Bookstore to see in action the latest home robots that are making a difference in people’s lives–helping busy people better balance all of the work that needs to get done in the home, and spend time on all the things they want to do–like blogging.

“We are thrilled that iRobot has chosen to join us at BlogHer this year. This is our fourth BlogHer conference, and we expect over 1,000 influential bloggers to converge on San Francisco for a weekend of learning and sharing,” said Jory Des Jardins, BlogHer co-founder and president of Strategic Alliances. “The iRobot Internet Café and Bookstore will be a perfect place for iRobot to demonstrate how its home robots can really help women and families balance all they have going on at home, which we know is of paramount importance to not only our bloggers, but their millions of readers as well.”
